Call for Student Constitutional Personhood – Broadening Participation in STEM Learning.

The Algebra Project and the Young People’s Project (AP/YPP) are now “quarterbacking an algebra insurgency” that works the demand side of student constitutional personhood.  In the 60s, doing voter registration was not radical per-se, but it WAS radical to shoulder SNCC voter registration with the Mississippi Delta sharecroppers to demand their constitutional right to vote.  Likewise, for AP/YPP using math literacy work to reach students trapped in the bottom to demand their constitutional right to a quality public education is radical in the following crucial ways: it links their individual aspirations for a quality 21st century life to the same insurgent demands for constitutional personhood that shaped the nation; it challenges them to step out of a culture of “self-centeredness” and into a national legacy of struggle for human respect, human worth, human dignity that reaches all young people.
