Mansfield OH Seniors use OSUM English course to reflect on math literacy

The Mansfield, Ohio, Algebra Project Cohort of high school seniors will participate in a semester-long writing course offered at The Ohio State University Mansfield Campus in spring 2013. The students and instructor Cheryl Logan will collaboratively develop the content for this course, which is to include personal narratives of students’ four-year participation in the Algebra Project, critical reflections of themselves as leaders/mentors/teachers to a new Algebra Project Cohort of 9th graders at Mansfield Senior High School. Upon completion of this course, students will earn 3 college credits. As a culminating project, the instructor aims to compile an edited collection of the students’ voices in a published book. This new course models strategies for universities to partner with high schools in building a bridge by increasing students’ writing competence in college-level study.
